thrifty finds

did a lil' thriftin' last week.

no huge haul to speak of, but a few prizes worth braggin' about...

1 set of fab green wooden beads- 1.04

1 new white platter for my dining hutch- 1.48

1 small blk dish with turquoise middle- .99

1 mini guitar- 1.48

3 chick-lit books- 1.98 each= 5.94

5 frames of varying sizes ranging from .99- 2.98

I plan to spray paint these soon and turn them into fabulousness that I'll be sharing with ya. In the meantime, let's zoom in on that bear in the shower cap and think about the person crazy enough to have staged this photo...

Stuffed bear? check

shower cap? check

bath towels with lace trim? check

basket of fake flowers? check

soaps in the shape of sea shells? check

shower scrubber to stick in the bear's paw? check

 all items placed around the stuffed bear and posed as if ready for a shower and extremely excited about it?

check

Once I take these frames apart, I won't need the pics inside anymore-

so Mr. Shower Bear will be up for grabs.

In other non-crazy-thrift-store-pic news...

I also picked up some thrifty goods from Target.

Did you really think I could go a whole 2 days and not mention the bullseye?

Do any of you shop the clearance racks?

I mean, really dig into those things for the good deals?

Because I climbed in one last week.

No joke.

I found so many smokin' hot deals that I basically blocked anyone else from getting near me and the 75% off rack with my red buggy. Smokin' hot deals like tops + skirts for 1.49- 2.49 and dresses for 5 buckaroos.

yes, I know this is end of the season clearance,

but we're in AL here folks.

It's been above 80 every day this week.

Plus, I bought sizes that will fit next year as well.

I came home with this: 

14 pieces of cuteness...

yes, that's 3 of the same skirt in the pic above.

didn't really mean to do that, but it's 3 different sizes and they were only 1.49, so expect to see my girlies in those striped beauties for the next 4+ years, mmmkay?

Cinderella was E's fave, and at less than 2 bucks it was well worth it for a Christmas-morning-type-squeal from her.

The moral of today's post?

Get thee to a Target if you have younguns and would like some discounted duds,

and,

if you've always wanted a picture of a stuffed bear in a shower cap,

I'm your gal.

Did a lil' thrifting on Saturday.

The thrift store was the MOST crowded its ever been when I've been there, which made for difficult maneuvering of a double stroller.

Needless to say, we didn't stay long, but I did manage to grab a few goodies before escaping the madness of the crowd-

Love finding a good read for not a lot of money.

Here's what I brought home:

Also picked up these two glass domes and this fabulous white pitcher.

After leaving the thrift store, the kids and I headed straight for the mall. About 3 seconds after stepping into Belk, I saw this on a display table-

Can you guess what my next DIY will be?

Not sure how I'd go about recreating that silver stand, but there are a few pieces I'll be looking for to create something similar.

BTW- the glass domes I picked up at the thrift store were 1.48 and 1.98. The price of the piece you see above (which is Arthur Court) is $65.

Looking forward to knocking it off on a budget.

Howdy friends!
Hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday!
As for me, I just made it home from Lowe's after finalizing our kitchen
ONCE AND FOR ALL.
All decisions have been made, colors picked out, cabinets ordered, coutertops ordered,
it's all done!

(whew)

Now comes the wait, not that we haven't been waiting BEFORE now. Estimates are that it will take 3-6 weeks before we'll have shiny newness in our kitchen, so until then,
we shall wait.
In the meantime, there's still sheetrock to go up, and painting to do, and fabric to pick out, and one last row of cabinets to rip out.

(I just got a lil' tired typing all of that. What is wrong with me?)
Anywho-
Today's post isn't about the kitchen. It's about a lovely thrifting trip I took with a friend a couple weeks ago and never posted about. I've mentioned my firend, Erin, on here before- she's the one who takes beautiful pictures like this:

So- here's some of what we came across while at Alabama's Thrift Store a few weeks ago-

lots and lots of baskets and wicker items crying out to be spray-painted...

seriously,

can't you hear them?

this was actually pretty cool-

it's a coffee mug from a theatre, and since I'm a theatre gal, it caught my eye

these would also be a spray paint project, that is,

unless you actually LIKE the yellow and the fruit.

I won't judge.

this cute little perfect-shade-of-Tiffany-turquoise mug came home with me. At .58 cents, how could I NOT take it home?

Erin didn't want me to take a pic of HER, but, she did find this rockin' kitty artwork.

Which reminds me-

anyone seen the "I love cats" eHarmony video?

I digress...

I'm all for getting rid of things you no longer use so that someone like me can come along and buy it and turn it into fabulousness, BUT, don't leave your pics IN the frames, mmmkay?

It's just wrong.

If you happen to know these people, who I'm assuming are much older now, please let them know that their picture is in a frame at Alabama's Thrift store on Skyland in Tuscaloosa.

Crocs cell phone case, anyone?

Ahhh.....the jewelry.

There's usually some really good stuff in those jewelry cases too. Be warned though, if you happen to find something you want to purchase, you'll have to take a number with you to the check-out counter so that the cashier can go to the jewelry cabinet and retrieve a basket with your jewelry in it. Heaven forbid, you'd try to steal that 79 cent necklace you wanted.

And here's a look at what I actually deemed worthy enough to bring home:

Lots of mason jars that were used at the girls parties. (There's just something so Southern and so right about drinking out of a mason jar) Also some lovely tea cups + saucer + creamer that were white with turquoise on the inside (LOVE), a frame which I totally intend to paint and turn into awesomeness, a couple of books, and a rockin' ohsofabulous mini pink guitar- (see pics below)

The Hairspray book was a PRIZE, and I only wish there'd been two of them since Erin and I were both in the AL premiere and happen to be lovers of all things musical theatre.

The script is inside, along with some really neat anecdotes from the authors + composer

The other book had some really neat quotes that would make cute framed artwork.

There's O trying out the snazzy pink guitar. Props to Erin for seeing it in someone else's buggy and stealing it for me.

Ok, I'm TOTALLY kidding. It was in another buggy, but we asked everyone around if it was theirs and no one, that's right- NO ONE claimed it. So after about 7 minutes, it was totally mine. Fair, right? We really did try to track down the shopper of the buggy and its contents, but after a while, it was really only right that I take it home. Didn't want it to feel unwanted + neglected by that abandoning shopper.

So, that's another installment of thrifty finds.

went thrifting 4 weeks ago and never posted my finds...

and they were good ones.

Well,

still are.

group #1 of thrifty goodness came from the Junior League's annual sale-

(no, I didn't purchase this beauty but couldn't resist taking a photo)

even going on the 2nd day of the sale, I found a ton of loot to take home.

Not just stuff I liked cause it was cheap, but actual stuff I will use-

Nester really has me thinking about not just buying stuff because it was a 'good deal', but because I actually have a use for it. I've bought far too many things in the past because I thought they were just 'too good to pass up'.

(gah)

the Martha Stewart decorating book was a buck fifty.

after leaving the Junior League sale, I headed straight to Almost Antiques in Circlewood. Here's what came home with me-

1 fabulous candle lantern

1 funky retro orange vase

1 giraffe (which will soon be white)

1 green/white ceramic dish

9 bucks

love this lantern-

I've seen this in catalogs and online for anywhere from 25-80 buckaroos.

Mine was $2

and that green dish called to me since St. Patty's day is a-coming.

group #3 comes from the hob lob.

love it when I see those 80% off signs

I picked up another (much larger) thing-a-ma-bob which I'm planning to paint and a large frame that was 7 bucks (which I'm planning to turn into an inspiration board to hang above my desk)

the thing-a-ma-bob began its life valued at 30 bucks, but I picked it up for 6.

It's going to play a role in making everything on my mantel light, bright, and white

and last, but certainly not least, I picked up this floor lamp at Target for 12 bucks. I needed more light at my desk and this fits the bill perfectly. Of course, it doesn't sit on the desk, but next to it. Now all I need to do is work on a gallery wall above my desk and I can stick a fork in that project (and mark it off my 31 by 31 list)
