How to look Hot in a Mini Van

So remember when I went kicking and screaming into the driver's seat of a mini van? There's a new book called, "How To Look Hot in a Mini Van", and the author, Janice Min, sat down with Kathie Lee and Hoda yesterday to talk about it. Props to my friend Melanie for letting me know about it cause you can bet yer sweet bippy I'll be reading it.

Here's the segment from the show, and I'm curious- any of you out there interested to see what's in the book? Any fave celebrity mom's whose style you love? Any of you still trying to lose the baby weight from your last kid who happens to be over two, or is that just me?

p.s. I'm still rockin' this keychain from etsy.

Shop talk

It's "Show us what you make/sell" day over at Kelly's blog, so I figured I'd do a quick shop update and link up! I have some new goodies to show you, so let's get to it! (And if you landed over here from over there, then WELCOME! I have an etsy shop where I sell hair accessories, pillow covers, notecards, pennant banners, and Christmas stockings, as well as plenty of houndstooth/crimson goodies for my fellow Tide fans. You can see the items I currently have listed by clicking HERE.)

First off, I'm loving these hair accessories I made out of Matilda Jane garment bags! Each piece of clothing comes in a cute mesh bag, so I figured I'd try my hand at putting them to good use-

I currently have 10 different styles on a variety of hair clips and stretchy headbands. My model prefers the headbands-

Football season officially kicks off TOMORROW, so I'd thought I'd do a little collage of Roll Tide goodies I have on hand-

and a little something for the Auburn fans...

Here's a few other items I have on hand (some are listed in the shop and some are custom pieces. If you have questions or would like to place a custom order, you can email me at funnygirl33180(at)aol(dot)com. And yes, I'm one of the last humans on earth to still have an aol account.)

Mini flower clips- $3

set of 6 notecards- $5

need an accessory to match a certain outfit? I do custom orders...

The mini-cluster headband (above) also comes in 6 other colors...

I also make custom sashes for parties, showers, graduations, and Thursdays.
This is my seester who will soon be "Mrs. Clark"in the sash I made for her Bachelorette Weekend.

If you have any hair accessory, or sofa accessory, or mantel accessory needs, or perhaps you need monogrammed notecards, or a houndstooth clip for your lapel, then I'm your gal. Feel free to browse my shop & happy Friday!

new shop goods & new MJ collection pieces

Happy Thursday friends!
Popping in to show you a few things I've been working on and to share a few more Matilda Jane goodies.
*Reminder- trunk show tomorrow at my hizzy from 4-6*

This week, the story has been pillow covers-
everything from bright patterns/pops of color...

to darker, more subdued hues.

I've also been working on a few new designs of notecards-
and yes, my toes totally made it into the shot above

Love these subtle 'Love' cards.
Also love the *new* craft notecards.

And of course, there will be tons of pins/clips/headbands in stock-

AND...
Since it's the 1st of the month, the second release of the Serendipity collection is now available for purchase and pics are up on the Matilda Jane website.

FYI- I've made knock-off star headbands like this one to sell tomorrow. MM has already been sporting one of them and she's a huge fan.

Good gravy these clothes are fab.

Go HERE to get a look at the newest pieces, and remember-
they'll be at my house tomorrow if you'd like to see them in person. For anyone who's not local and interested in placing an order, it's as easy as pie. Shoot me an e-mail at Funnygirl33180(at)aol(dot)com and I can hook you up with the fabulous Lana who is the trunk keeper in my area.

I'm off to teach a little music-
hope you're having a fabulous day!

meet Matilda Jane

or perhaps you already know her well.
If you already know the awesomeness that is Matilda Jane clothing, then raise your hand.

okay, thank you. You can put your hands down.

If you're hearing about Matilda Jane for the first time today, then please raise your hand.

Okay. Great. Then allow me to introduce you two...

Matilda Jane Clothing offers fabulous pieces for little girls (and boys), as well as tweens, teens, and grown-up gals.

I attended a trunk show for this line a few weeks ago, and I'll be honest, I don't usually go ga-ga over clothes. Come to think of it, it's been a while since I went ga-ga over anything, besides Downton of course, but this was an exception.

Why, you ask?

Well, I'll tell you.

Not only are the clothes cute, quirky, and incredibly well-made, but most of the pieces are also made to be mixed and matched together. The ruffle pants I bought for Eliza also work underneath the dress that I bought for Mary Martin. The dress I bought for myself (far left of the photo above) looked great with a cardi and boots, but I'll also be able to wear it this spring/summer with sandals. Each of the pieces is so versatile, and the colors/patterns of each of the collections is truly unique and unlike anything I've seen before. Especially the knot dresses for the little girlies. LOVE the different fabrics/colors spliced together to make a single garment. Pure genius.

So why am I going on and on about these clothes?

I'm so glad you asked.

I'll be having a trunk show at my house in two weeks for any of you locals who'd like to come and have a look for yourself. I loved the fact that I was able to actually touch the clothing and try it on before I bought a single piece of it. I also loved that I was able to pick the correct sizes for my girls since I wasn't familiar with this clothing. It runs pretty true to size, btw. Even if you're not local and would still like to purchase items, there's a way to do that too. I'll be glad to set you up with my 'trunk keeper' so that you can be a virtual party guest. Also, and this is BIG, if you're just meeting Matilda for the first time today, (just as I did a few weeks ago) you might not be aware of her popularity. Well lemme tell ya, she's popular. SO popular that there is a facebook fan page for "Matilda Jane addicts" where gals post items for sale as well as list items they'd like to buy once their little ones have outgrown a piece and they need a larger size. There's also eBay. Ohhhhh eBay. I dare you to type 'Matilda Jane' into the search bar, dare you. Not only do most used items sell for 75-90% of their original purchase price, some particularly scarce/hard to find items sell for even more. So just think, you buy your littles or yourself some pretty duds and within several months or a year, they've outgrown them or you decide that maybe it's time for your dress/cardi/skirt to find a new home, you'll recoup most of the moolah you spent on those pieces in the first place.
Nice, huh?
There's also a new line introduced each Spring in 3 seperate launches (Feb, March, and April) and the newest collection, Serendipity, will have new pieces on the 1st of March. The trunk show at my house is March 2, so yay for getting a first look at the new goods!

I also need to mention the accessories, because I've decided to do something a little unconventional. Or maybe it's totally conventional, not sure...

As most of you know, I make hair accessories and sell them from my house as well as on etsy, and after taking a look at the clothing, I decided I would whip up several headbands, hair clips, and pins that would coordinate with several of the pieces in the collection. I'll have all of my items for sale during the trunk show as well so that you can dress your little gal or yourself from head to toe. I'll also have new pillow covers, camera strap covers, and banners in the shop in new 'Springy' colors. I've been a sewing machine lately. Okay, that doesn't work since that's an actual thing...let's try maniac. I've been a sewing MANIAC lately. Yes, much better.

I'll also have food.
Free food.
Free yummy food.

You can check out all of the Matilda Jane goodness HERE on their site, and here's your official invite:
hey, that rhymed....

New shop items and a mad dash to a clean house

Happy Monday to you friends! I hope all of you had a lovely weekend! I wish I had taken pictures at the craft fair on Saturday, but alas, I was a wee bit busy. My son, however, took tons so as soon as I go through them, I'll try to post a few. I spent most of last night listing some of what didn't sell in my shop. I still have a ton to list as it takes much longer than one would think. Listing items also means that I spent a few hours yesterday afternoon taking pictures of said items and I wanted to share a few of those-

Houndstooth banners are now back in stock. Tie them up on the mantel when you're cheering on the Tide, or hang them on your tent or RV as you tailgate, or keep it up year round because it's just so very pretty.
(grin)

Fall pennant banners-

One of my new faves-
Christmas Dot pennant banners-

Since I was taking pics of a Christmas banner, I figured I'd better throw some other Christmas decor on the mantel. Totally got me itchin' to get out ALL of my Christmas boxes and go wild, but I didn't. Next weekend maybe...

Also new to the shop- headbands

This one is a lovely shade of mocha with a bronze button in the center.
I'd also like to introduce you to my model, Millie.
She's quite punctual and so cooperative.
Thanks, Millie.

In classic Red-

and in classic Black chiffon.
Ooo la la...

I also made a few wool felt flowers in Red-

and some pins for those of you who yell, "War Eagle" instead of "Roll Tide".
I don't discriminate.

Also picked up a batch of alligator clips and I'm thrilled to say these stay put on a lapel as well as in your hair. The best of both worlds.

And...when I signed in to read my e-mail this morning, AOL threw a picture of Kate Middleton in my face and you'll never GUESS what she was wearing on her black coat-

a red flower pin.
They were all wearing red flower pins.
Classic and gawgeous and available RIGHT HERE in my shop.
Thanks Kate.
And Camilla.
And Lady Feather-hat.

****

And to get to the second part of my title today, I am super-thrilled to be throwing a baby shower at my house this weekend.
Super-thrilled, but also a little bit in hyper-drive as I took stock of the cleanliness situation at my house over the weekend and must report that things ain't lookin' so great. In classic MK style, I have a list a mile long of what I want to accomplish in the house (i.e.- hanging pictures, installing the last of the trim in the kitchen, etc.) and a list of things to make for the shower itself. For a glimpse at what direction I'll be taking for the shower decor, you can check out my 'Baby Shower' board on Pinterest, HERE. I'm hoping to mark quite a few things off of this mile-long to-do list in the next few days, so I'll keep you posted on how things are a'lookin.
Wish me luck...

New shop items and a giveaway

Hello friends!
Sorry for my lack of posting as of late...
I'm learning how to re-stock shop items and teach full time and be a mommy full time and a wifey full time and oh bytheby the babe is teething and E and O are both coughy and snotty.
Too much info?
Sorry-
just keeping it real.
So, thank you for hanging with me while I try to sew and wipe snot off my shoulder and attempt to make something edible for my fam to eat.
Hopefully not simultaneously.
That could make for some unsanitary food.
Moving on.

I listed a few new shop items last night that I wanted to share with you here-

Finally just went with the best pictures I could get at 10:00 pm with no natural light, so the stockings are *finally* in the shop-

New flower colors are Melon-

and Mint

New flower pattern is Blue/White stripe-

and I've listed 2 wool felt flowers,

Turquoise-

and Fuschia-

**Please note that, just as it says in each of the flower listings, I can attach these to a headband OR a pin. Either one. Whatever suits your fancy. Whatever floats your boat. Whatever dings your bell. Whatever toots your whistle.**
Perhaps I should have left 'toot' out of it...

***
As to the giveaway portion of the title of this post-
I've noticed that I'm super close to reaching 200 followers on GFC, so as soon as I do, I'll be giving away a $25 shop credit-
Good for evah whatcha want in my shop.

Maybe it will happen this week?
Maybe next?

In the somewhat altered words of Antoine Dodson,
I implore you to,
"Tell ya kids, tell ya wife",
or in this case,
maybe just tell ya friends...

Happy Thursday!

weekend recap and a new shop item

Hello friends, and happy Monday to ya!
I hope you all had a fabulously mahvelous weekend.
Mine got off to a little bit of a slow start as I was
incredibly, insanely, overwhelmingly tired from the happenings of the week.

Do any of you experience that?
Monday starts off well enough, but if you go to bed the SLIGHTEST bit late, you're in trouble. There's no catching up on Tuesday, for Tuesday has an agenda of its own, and Wednesday? Fuh-get about it. No catching up then, and Thursday and Friday?
They just laugh at you.
"What? You think WE'RE about to give you a break? Cut you some slack? Not only are we NOT going to give you the rest you so desperately need, we're gonna take away even more of your sleepy time/sanity."

That Friday is a booger. Since Saturday is the ONE day of the week that doesn't have an early call, Friday is all like, "Stay up late with me! Drink coffee all night long and read those magazines that you've been piling up because Monday through Thursday don't give you time for such nonsense. I'll give you all the time you WANT for your Elle Decor and Traditional Home and Lucky and InStyle. ALL the TIME YOU WANT."

(Sometimes I just want to punch Friday in the face and go to bed at 6:00pm)

Sorry.
I digress.
As I was saying...

My boys were both up early, the older one went to church to help build a pavilion (more on that in a sec) and the younger one was ready to fly spaceships in a galaxy far, far away. After a bowl of oatmeal of course.

Since our church is running a distribution center now, it was decided that a permanent pavilion-type structure should be built in the parking lot. And for those of you wondering why my church would need a structure in the parking lot with a roof, THIS post will explain why. The needs of the community around my church are still great and so many are still volunteering their time and donating their goods to make sure those needs are met. On Saturday, my hubs was one of several men who made 8 wooden posts sunk into the ground go from this:

to this:

to this:

and if I'm remembering correctly, all that's left to do is to finish out the roof with shingles. Once that's done, the pavilion will serve as a permanent structure under which tables can be set up for the distribution of goods, as well as the occasional meal. Awesomeness.

While hubs was busy with the hammer and nails, I was able to check a whole slew of things of the ole' to-do list. Yes, I totally just said slew.
I fed the girlies breakfast, cleaned out their closet, listed some much-too-small-for-MM clothes on the facebook garage sale, cleaned out the fridge, fed all 3 kiddos lunch, washed the dishes, put the girlies down for a nap, cut some fabric, and took the quickest shower EVAH because the girlies didn't even nap an entire hour. (boo)

I was thankful for enough time, however, to cut these out:

Yes, I do feel like I owe a bit of an apology to Halloween and Thanksgiving for putting my thoughts on Christmas so early, but I jotted "Houndstooth stocking" on a piece of paper at school this week and simply had to make one. I used the same pattern I made for my burlap stockings last year and I'm tickled pink with how they turned out.
Yup.
Pink.

They'll be listed in the shop as soon as I have etsy-worthy photos of them.

And speaking of Houndstooth and Crimson and Roll Tide and whatnot...

these babies, as well as the solid crimson and the houndstooth/crimson hybrid flowers, are totally for sale at Alabama Express on the strip (as well as 3 other locations in town). So, for all you locals, you can totally see and purchase my flowers at an actual store. I mean, they'll be hanging in there. On the wall and stuff. And you can buy them. Did you hear me, internet? My stuff is available at a brick and mortar other than my house.
Thanks go to David for thinking they were cool enough to sell in his shop.

And speaking of my friend David....

he ran lights and sound for Tuscaloosa Children's Theatre's production of Thoroughly Modern Millie this week.

The hubs and I were able to see the show Saturday night and it. was. fab.
Kudos to their director, Drew, and to Rosie and Nick who were absolutely superb as Millie & Jimmy. The entire cast and crew should be extremely proud of their production. Also, kudos to Callie and Tim for their phenomenal cameos. Did you hear that Callie and Tim?
That's a total shout-out.

And now, here's a few more things you might need to know, or might care to know, or might not give a rat's tooty about:

1. I'm currently cooking supper.
In my crock-pot.
This is huge for me since I really don't cook.
(It's in my bio)
Thanks go to Judy for giving me that chili recipe on a blue index card a couple of years ago. It's the only thing I make that hubs will eat.

2. I'm taking the kiddos trick-or-treating on sorority row tonight.
Any of you ever done this?
Taken your kiddos to sorority houses to trick-or-trick?
Most of the fams at my church do it every year-
not quite sure why I've never gone before.
Oh yeah, I was probably in rehearsal for something.
Anywho, I'm pumped.
Should be a good time.
I'll report back tomorrow.

3. Did I hear that Kristen Chenoweth was going to be on DWTS tonight?
Can anyone confirm?
I heart her.

4. All Missoni for Target items that happen to still be in Target stores are now 30% off.
Did you hear that internet?
30% OFF.
Run, don't walk.

5. And is there anything funnier than a babe in a curly gray wig eating a pop-tart?

I think not.
