The day Missoni crashed Target

If you shop at Target,
or watch tv ads for Target,
or keep up with the designers who've partnered with Target,
chances are you might have known about a little partnership between the designer label Missoni, and the bullseye.

The collection of this famed fashion house was set to debut yesterday (9.13.11), and debut it did. The launch of the line, which included everything from housewares to clothing to bikes, was SO successful that it not only caused many a stampede of ladies through those big red doors, but also a complete crash of Target's website, causing those who'd chosen to stay home and avoid the crowds by shopping online great distress. There's a great article about the whole shebang in the Chicago Tribune HERE.

What was the big deal, you may ask?

Well I'll tell you.

Just as with other designer partnerships in the past (such as Isaac Mizrahi, Zac Posen, and Liberty of London), Missoni for Target offers up high runway fashion without the hefty pricetag.
For example:

This dress from the Missoni label is sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and retails for $1375.00

This dress & cardigan however, are from the Missoni for Target line and retailed for $49.99-$64.99

This dress at Saks = $1045

But this one at Target = a steal at just $54.99
If you're not a fan of the zig zag variety then you're in luck and won't have to look at any of it since most of the stores sold out of almost every item within the first hour. If you are, however, a fan and weren't able to grab any Missoni goods at your local Target or online, there are currently 16,900 Missoni for Target items listed on ebay. Some are selling with starting bids at or below retail, and some are selling with starting bids of $100 or higher for items which cost only $25-$65 in stores. While I was able to make a quick run to my local Target yesterday and pick up several items (thanks seester for zipping through like a mad woman and throwing the goods into your red buggy), the one item which eluded me was this:

the fabulous signature zig zag throw.
I've heard through the grapevine that most stores were only sent 2 of each of the color choices, and lucky for me, I just happen to have an Aunt in TN who went to her local Target and was able to grab this one for me:
A few items made it home with me, including these cutie-patootie shoes for E:
and a zig zag cardigan for myself.

So...
I'd love to know-
what's your opinion of the zig zags.
Love it or leave it?
Anyone else join in the madness at their local Target today?
Anyone out there cursing Target.com under their breath for failing to handle the demand?
Anyone else out there craving cheesecake?
No?
Just me then?

******

And HOW could I not have mentioned the finale of Design Star??
So glad I was able to watch with my friends Jamie and Tim-
we sat through almost every episode together!
Not gonna lie,
never would have picked Meg to take home the prize when the season began,
and...
anyone else remember her hot mess of a white box?
Or how about the HGTV'd home where she didn't finish her spaces which were the ENTRYWAY and LOFT for goodness sakes! Not even rooms! Just quasi-rooms!
Ah well...
Congrats to her, and -
will YOU be watching her 'Great Rooms' show on HGTV?
Do tell...

I'd love some cheesecake right now, zig zags, not so much! I'm sure they are great, but I've seen too many, I was reading a style mag the other day, and zig zags were all over it, but with 4 different names! Chevron, zig zag, ikat and something else, really can't they just settle on one name?

Target should have known this would happen, every time a designer hooks up with a regular store, things go crazy! Perhaps they should have limited the number of items any one person could buy (not sure if they did this), I can't stand those who buy loads just to sell on for a stupidly high price, seems a bit mean and defeats the whole point of having an affordable label range!

Well, I've obviously had too much coffee this morning and need to step gracefully off my soap box! I'm off to find me some cheesecake!
You are so lucky! I want to get the tote bag but every Target and online is sold out already. Sucks really! I don't want to pay $100 for a$35 bag. Guess I'll have to wait. I agree that they should of limited the amount of items. It is totally unfair. I just wanted a bag not the entire line.
You know, I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that the reason I am so bummed that I didn't go to Target yesterday and at least pick out a scarf (because, simply, I didn't have the money and didn't want the temptation) is this: everyone else is in on what everyone else has been talking about for months. That's it. It's not so much because I would go crazy and swoop everything up if I'd seen this same design in a thrift store, because I'm just simply not in love with it, honestly. But I hate not being in on something this big. Aren't I a great consumer?? I buy into the hype even when I'm not that excited about the product!
I seriously heart the zigzags.....especially the brown/orange/cream ones! But I didn't like the print so much on my body so got it for my feet. ;) I did not even know they had that throw! I LOVE IT!!
