where we'll be today

today the hubs and I will be heading to the place where we met 23 years ago.
the place where we spent countless hours playing and learning about Jesus.
the place where we were awkward and adolescent and "youths".
the place where we said, "I do".
the place where our children were dedicated.

that place is
Alberta Baptist Church

our church building took a serious beating from the tornado, and now looks like this...

we'll be there today to pack and label what's still in the church buildings so that it can be put into storage until God leads us where He'd have us rebuild. So many kind volunteers have already spent hours and hours securing our building, cleaning debris from the parking lot, and packing boxes- how I wish I could thank each and every one of them.

Could you join us in praying for God's will to be done as we seek His guidance for the future of our church?
we'd greatly appreciate it

The entire city of Tuscaloosa also needs our prayers as the clean-up/ rebuilding process begins.

The area around our church, Alberta City, was especially devastated. The elementary school was destroyed and the kids have all been moved to other schools in the area. Please pray for them as they make this transition.

Here's an aerial view of part of Alberta City-
our church is near the upper left corner

I promise to be back soon with much happier posts,
but for now,
this is heavy on my heart and mind.
God is good, all the time, and we are trusting in His perfect plan for our church.
but I will greatly miss coming to this building.
such beautiful memories were made here...

Oh, I am so sorry and heartbroken to see the devastation from the tornado's. My heart and prayers go out to you and your community. I wish there was someway I could help. Keep your head up. Also, have a wonderful Mother's Day if possible.

your friend in blogging,

MK! So sorry about your beautiful church. We are in town today too and did some work out in Holt....just seeing the images of all the devastation in no way prepared me for what I saw today. Just cannot believe how much damage was done. Praying for you guys!
Wow. I am so sorry!! I heard Alberta got hit hard, but hadn't seen any pictures.
Just Wow.
Know that we're praying and doing all that we can for the many hurting communities! If you know of any specific needs that Alberta has, let me know - I will do what I can to see if they can get met!!

thank you so much Rachel! The volunteers flooding into Alberta have been nothing short of amazing. A large group from LA, one from B'ham, and another from a church here in town were with us all day Saturday packing boxes. We've been offered a 5,000 sq ft storage facitlity FOR FREE for as long as we need it to hold everything we could save, and another church has graciously been allowing us to hold services in their building. God is good! The 30+ families in our church whose homes were affected are receiving help/food/clothing from volunteers and oragnization in town. I don't know of any specific people/groups who have needs at the moment but I'll let you know. Thank you SO much for the ways you've been helping- I've been keeping up on twitter/blog. However do you find the time with littles at home??
That's so awesome about the storage facility!! How wonderful.
And if you saw the state of my house, you'd know what was being neglected! :)
