It happened on a Monday night

We were enjoying a nice evening at home.
Mary Martin was content playing with her crayons,
Oliver was waging war on a galaxy far, far away,
hubs was checking facebook on his phone,
and Eliza played sweetly with her Barbies on the bean bag beside my desk as I did highly important things on Pinterest.

Nice, quiet evening.

Every so often, a giggle here and there from the girls.

The sound of spaceships zooming from the boy.

It came silently.

It came with no warning.

There was no sound,
no bells or whistles to alert us.
Nothing.

Until she stood.

She stood and she walked.

She had to show daddy what her Barbie was wearing because she looked like a princess.

She stood and walked,
and then I saw.

I saw the hint of it, running down her leg.
Did she sit in something?
Is it marker?
They know how I feel about the markers...

What is that?

"Babe, what's on her leg?"

hubs: "I don't know. Where?"

"On the back of her leg. What is that?"

hubs: (looks at her backside) "Oh my GOSH"

"Is it...."

"Could that be...."

"Surely not..."
She's two years old, afterall. Messy accidents of a dreadful nature have been a thing of the past. At least, with her. No way that's, ummm...

hubs: "It's POO"

"What?"

hubs: "It's total doo-doo!"

"But how, .....where was she...."

"WHERE WAS SHE?"

I jumped up, remembering that she'd been so content playing in the bean bag seat for quite some time. It's on her leg! If it's on her leg, then....
ohdearohdearohdear...

I looked down.
It couldn't be,
simply could.not.be.
I'd been sitting right beside her in my chair for the past 20 minutes.
But sure enough,
there it was.

Poo.
Poo.All.Over.
Poo everywhere.
Smeared into our beloved Star Wars bean bag.
Smeared into a sweet innocent pillow.

POO.
Mounds of it.
The poor girl never made a sound, just kept talking in her best soprano voice to her Barbies. Singing and talking and singing and talking, and all the while, lounging in the poo.

Steady yourself friends,
because you KNOW I took a picture.
How could I not?
(I did, however, shift the pillow to cover the worst of it.)
Avert your eyes if you're of the weak-stomached variety.

It's one of those times when, after the discovery of 3 scoops of chocolate didley-doo, ya just have to take a deep breath (in cleaner air, of course) and laugh.

We not only had to say goodbye to the bean bag and the pillow, but the purple fairy tutu as well. Never before has a garment seen such destruction my friends. There was no saving it.
It was too far gone.

Thank goodness I'd taken these pics of her in it just a few days prior.
Memories of sweeter days.
Cleaner days...

And, as if a bean bag, a pillow, and a purple fairy tutu weren't enough, E had decided to give her tutu a little umph right before settling into her poop spot. A lovely little pink tutu also fell victim to the poo.

Now you see why we couldn't immediately see it?
It was all up in them tutu's.
All up IN THEM.

The hubs and I jumped into action, not wanting to waste a single minute. He whisked the poo poo princess outside where he proceeded to strip her and begin the task of removing said poo from each of her crevices.

I concluded that the bean bag and pillow were total losses,
so I helped hubs by taking pictures of him removing said poo from E's crevices.

Once our princess had been thoroughly cleaned, scrubbed, rinsed, and repeated, we pajama'd her up and put her to bed. I held the door open as hubs carried all other traces of said poo straight to the curb where we knew it would be picked up in a few days when the rubbish truck (or whatever it's called- it's not the garbage truck, but the curbside stuff truck) would, unfortunately, have the task of tossing it in.

But, guess what?
Even ending there, we've got one heckuva story to embarrass our little E until she's 40,
but it doesn't end there.
Nope.

You see, I thought it'd be funny to commemorate the curbside poo cast-offs in my Project Life album, so the next morning as O and I left for school, I snapped this pic:

It was a Tuesday morning,
the day after the great poo debacle.
Not the day that the rubbish-or-whatever-you-call-it truck comes.
Are you following?

It should have been there when we came home,
but it wasn't.
And no truck came.

Meaning-
someone passed by in their car and thought,
"Whoa! There's a free Star Wars bean bag and a totally rad black and white pillow! I can't believe someone is getting rid of that!
I'll take it!"

My friends,
those are the famous last words of some poor soul out there who not only threw a couple of unwanted items into the back of their car,
but a couple scoops of straight up chocolate didley-doo as well.

The moral of this story?

"Check for POO before you take it with you"

It's party time and a weekend recap

Happy Monday everyone!
Hope you had a great weekend!
We had absolutely beautiful weather, once again!
Went to a birthday party, did a lil' shopping, and spent some time in my aunt and uncle's pool yesterday.
I.Love.Summer.

And speaking of summer, it's a season of the year when we're usually NOT celebrating birthdays at our house. In our family of 5, we have one birthday in February, one in March, and three in May. However, some unexpected circumstances arose and parties got postponed, and then postponed again, and so...this Saturday we will be celebrating the birthdays of 2 little girls at our house.
finally.

We've decided to have a very low-key party with our family and friends-
I didn't even send out invitations.
Can you believe it?
Nevermind that our only computer with a word processor is broken and I refuse to pay money for invites when I can make them myself. Just not with a broken computer...

You may recall I posted about the themes of their parties many moons ago, but here's a quick recap-
Eliza is all about shoes and Barbie right now, so her party theme will be some of this:

with a little of this on the side-

by the way- this is THE most precious book about a little girl that loves to wear her mommas high-heels. You can find it on Amazon HERE if you know of a little girl who needs this.
Sweet story, gorgeous illustrations, perfect for my E.

Mary Martin's party theme is this:

We'll have a dessert table for each of them so that I can use all of this party stuff I bought back in March and April. And since Saturday happens to be the 2nd of July, you know I'll have to throw in some red, white, and blue decor as well. I'll be posting my projects all week long, with the grand finale being the party itself. Oh how I just LOVE crafting for a party. Here's a peak at what I'll be tackling first-

found these topiary things at the hob lob on friday and have a grand plan for them on MM's birthday table. Just need to do a little spray painting, and cover with some moss and felt.

found these on clearance at the hob lob.
also plan to spray paint and use on MM's table.
you won't even recognize them when I'm done.
promise.

here's some of that patriotic flair I talked about adding-
scored these at 40% off at hob lob, and since I own a small fortune of srapbook paper, I plan to make LOTS of these suckers. LOVE me some pinwheels.

this pennant banner is actually what I was working on the other night when my machine died. Still haven't heard the outcome. (it's still in the shop)
Here's hoping it's fixed and home soon so I can finish that baby and hang it up!

***
and for the grandmas-

O man picked out this lego for hubs for Father's Day and they spent all of Thursday afternoon putting it together.

of course, it made this little girl jealous that O was getting to play with Daddy and she was not...

speaking of that little girl, she now likes to help with the laundry.
She also likes to tell you what each piece of clothing is before she throws it in the dryer.
Laundry time is lasting a bit longer these days...

Today at the pool.
Oh how I love how well our kiddos sleep after they've been swimming all day...

and this little one?
well she's just cute.

craft #4: fun with iron-ons

If you're joining me for the first time for craft week, here's a quick recap-
On Monday I knocked-off some Urban Outfitters wallflowers,
On Tuesday I turned some formula cans into storage containers,
and on Wednesday I made a houndstooth monogram
(while this is a blog series, each craft can stand on its own, just like the plots in the Toy Story movies. Same characters...different story lines)
get it?

Moving on to craft #4 for the week-
the
iron-on

I know what you're thinking...
"Does that really qualify as crafting?"

Well friends, anything that requires me to plug up the ole' iron is an automatic qualification as a craft, since the only time I use that thing is to press fabric as I'm sewing, or more recently, to adhere iron-on letters.
I heart my steamer.

The inspiration for today's projects actually came to me as I was cleaning out drawers.
Dresser drawers, that is...

This was one of my favorite tanks in college-

It's made by a brand called Parallel, and at one time I also had a top by the same brand that read,
"Those shoes don't go with that bag".
Funny, huh?

Also found this t-shirt from Old Navy-

nope, didn't even iron it before taking its pic.

I bought this about 7 years ago for my mom (sneaky) and then prompty stole it when I had my first child. Love the saying, love the font, but the fit of the tee isn't right anymore.
Too short.
So...I thought I'd try and make another one.
New piece of clothing,
same snarky comments.

I picked up a plain turquoise tee last week at Target while grocery shopping and felt great about only paying 8 bucks for it,
until
I went to Wal-mart and found some cute tanks for 3.88.
I'm a Target gal myself. Nothing against Wal-mart, in fact I still find cause to go there on occassion, but both Wal-marts in town are a good 15 minutes away while Target is a quick 3 minute trip from my driveway.

I digress...
(and the Target tee is a-goin back)
Here's what I found at Wal-mart-

Two cute tanks for me, and one green tee for a cute lil' 6-year old boy.

All ringing in at a cool 3.88 a piece.

The rub-ons I used were actually courtesy of my sis.
Remember that tank we made for her Halloween costume?
She let me keep the leftovers...

This particular set is by S.E.I. and cost 2.99 at the hob lob, may it rest in peace.

My first project was for the sweet lil' 6-year old boy who lives in a constant state of Star Wars.

The letters are easy as pie to attach-
peel them off the card,
arrange them on your shirt, bag, underwear, whatever...
and iron.
That's it.

In fact, it was SO easy, I quickly grabbed something else to which I could, um, adhere to.

Exhibit B-
plain, black, sad little make-up bag

30 seconds later and it's sporting a brand new monogram.
see how this could be addicting?

Then the hubs made his entrance...

I showed him the Jedi shirt and the make-up bag, and told him about the
"My kid is a genius" shirt.

(This is his my-wife-is-the-coolest-most-creative-person-ever look,
by the way)

"But you don't have a kid", he said.
"You have kids."
"Plural."

Hmmm...I thought.
he was right
"Why don't you write,
My kids are geniuses," he said.
Hmmm...that could work, I thought.
And then,
he came up with this-

He took it from snarky to
 ironic...
Who doesn't love a good grammatical error, done in jest?
love it

oh how that makes me chuckle every time I look at it,
and not just because of the crazy look on my face.

Don't you want one?
Yep, I thought so.

So tell me-
any of you make anything silly/pretty/decorative with iron-ons?
I'd love to know.

Seriously- I've got tons of letters left and I'm itching for something else to do with them...
