and I was a doubter...

I admit it.
I didn't believe we'd get snow.
So often, James Spann gets our hopes up, only to have a
'light dusting'
or as was the case a few weeks ago (when we missed two days of school)- only ice on the roads.
Last night as O and I left church, the flakes had started to fall...

Oliver was so excited, he proceeded to do some sort of
bring-on-the-snow dance

The snow fell,
and fell,
and fell,
which was a huge deal.
Because, ya know, we live in the South.
This never happens.
(Well, almost never)
And when we woke up this morning,
this is what we saw...

of course, a Star Wars critter had to accompany us outside before leaving for school.
That's right.
Ours was the only school system that didn't opt to start late. We still had to be there by 8:00.
Poop on that.
Would have much preferred to have those 2 extra hours to play outside with O and chug several cups of coffee.
Mary Martin did not sleep last night, poor baby.
Lots of crying (from her and myself, simply because I was exhausted and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was upsetting her). I also hated having to explain to Oliver on the way to school just why in the world we were having to go to school when it was cancelled only a few short weeks ago for ice and no snow. I sadly told him that once school was out this afternoon, it would all be melted.
But it wasn't.
Not all of it.
So, still a snow day, with a side of school thrown in.

It is beautiful to look at, eh?

And...
I'm still working on my wedding post. I have so enjoyed looking back at the pictures from that day. So special. I also have a challenge for myself that involves something that was a huge part of this day. Details coming soon to a theatre near you.
(Or...just on this blog)

randomness from our week:

don't leave red glitter, or any color glitter within arms reach of a 20-month old

ice cream in little waffle cones for dessert is always a good idea

if you have Comcast cable, then you know the tv won't work without this special little remote now. we have a little girl that likes to walk off with them, and put them, oh...
just anywhere she pleases.

this is where I found it Sunday night.

we've had lots of rain here lately, and as O and I were walking into school one day last week with our umbrellas, I turned to see that he was being a gentlemen.
SO sweet.

half of the first graders at my school had a concert Monday night-
they did an awesome job.
awesome.
so proud.
they even got a standing ovation.
don't they look so cute in their gold hats?

Monday night also happened to be my first rehearsal for Cinderella. Here's the cast singing through the opening number Tuesday night.
So excited to be working on a new show.

how was your week?
any glitter spills or wandering remotes at your house?

the engagement

as promised,
(and also, just because I want to)
I'm going to post pics and a few stories about the hubs and me.
you know, since love day is around the corner and whatnot.

Also,
our engagement story is a good one.

Here goes:

It was our 10-month (dating) anniversary and we had plans to eat out at a restaraunt downtown. Actually, though, the hubs had been a little sketchy on our dinner destination, trying to keep it a surprise, but one of the swankiest places to eat in our town is Chuck's seafood, and once his car made the turn and headed straight for downtown, I had an inkling that's where we'd be going. He parked a block away and we both got out of the car and started walking toward Chuck's. Leisurely strolling, hand in hand, like we'd done thousands of times before.
Nothing new.
The theatre where I performed on stage for the first time, and also where I currently direct shows is on the block where he'd parked the car. As we made our way closer to the theatre, and to the restaraunt, the hubs started telling me how much the last 10 months had meant to him, and how much he loved me- you know,
mushy stuff,
and I just smiled, gave his hand a squeeze,
and thought about how hungry I was.

Okay, not really.
Well, maybe just a wee bit,
but it did strike me as odd that he was getting so sentimental strolling down the sidewalk on the way to dinner.

Then...
as we neared the front of the theatre on the corner of the block, he stopped and told me once more how much he loved me.
He came around to my left,
and told me to look up.

This is what I saw-

As I stood there, gazing up at the marquee,
time froze.
I swear.
I was giddy-happy-can't-believe-this-is-happening-holy-cow-my-name-is-up-there-in-lights-wowza
all at once.

When I looked back at him, he was of course
on his knees holding up the prettiest of pretties.

Magical.

I couldn't get
"yes"
out of my mouth fast enough.

And then,
the required
we-just-got-engaged hug.

And that, in itself, would have been enough.
The marquee, the ring, the 'yes',
but there's more.
much more.

At that moment, our families came running out of the lobby of the theatre. Because the hubs, sly thing that he is, had let them in on the surprise.

O was the first one out, and that made it
perfect.
Just perfect.
He leaped into my arms and then the hug-fest commenced.

My mom, his mom, my dad, his dad, sisters, brothers, friends,
were all there, and had been waiting.

And, again, that would have been enough.
Would have been
awesome on its own, having our loved ones there to celebrate the moment with us.
But he had another surprise.

Just around the corner, in a little courtyard in front of the entrance to the theatre,
sat a little bistro table and two chairs,
and two plates of food.

Just for us.
He had friends bring the furniture and cook the food just for our night.
Our oh-so-special night.
Because he's cool like that.

And so as our families said their last congrats and started their good-byes,
we sat and ate the most scrumptious grilled tilapia and green beans, and...was there something else?
Forgive me,
the details of what was on my plate are fuzzy since my brain was still swirling in a
I just got engaged to this hottie
daze.

As we sat and ate our yumminess,
they started coming.
Friends, and more friends, and more family started driving by and yelling their congrats to us from their cars.
Because, you know-
the hubs had told them too,
and of course they had to see the marquee.
So special.

Could not have asked for a better proposal.
So meaningful to me-
he knew just where and how to do it.
My first experience on the stage took place when I was just 7 years old in that very theatre.
19 years later, I directed my first production in that very theatre.
Such a special place to me, and he knew that.
Perfect.

Other interesting tidbits from that evening-
David, the theatre's manager, didn't have a question mark for the marquee, so the one you see in the pic was made special just for us.

Also... after we finished our dinner, we went to the movies and saw The 300. Because nothing says, "I love you and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you" like watching a bunch of half-naked Spartans kill and mutilate entire armies of thugs.
After the movie, we had to ride by the theatre just once more to see if, by chance, the lights of the marquee were still lit.
And they were-

It was a lovely night.

Next up...
our DIY wedding.
because it was awesomeness too.

I have a new love and its name is Picnik...

that's right.
After reading a post on Kimbo's blog (A Girl and a Glue Gun),
I clicked a link and it was love at first edit.

Picnik  is a photo editing site that's abso-spankin-lutely free.
You can upgrade to their premium service, but really-
you don't have to.
So, thanks Picnik, for the option to pay for more stuff, but
no thanks.

Here's just a few of my pics that I played with...

my ohsoyummylicious dessert from last week became...

this after I enhanced the colors and added
a heart frame.
yes.
I said,
heart frame.

that conveys my feelings towards this dish oh so much better

Here's another.
You ready?

my sweet girls...

all in black and white with a pink bow.
Just for fun.

Do you see now how easy it would be to spend hours doing this?
I was all wrapped up in it and then,
bam,
I remembered I had kids to feed and whatnot.

Here's just one more:

sweet Mary Martin...

with a cool slightly blackish effect going on around the edge.
see?

the possibilities are endless my friends.

So go.
head over to picnik now and start playing with your pics.
but be careful- it's addictive.

(don't say I didn't warn you)

I really like these earrings, although can't remember where they came from

prop- again, the camera
****************

on to some randomness...

I came across something in my car yesterday that the hubs made for me almost 5 years ago now. He used to install duct work, and he cut this out of metal and wrote a sweet note on it.
creative + sweet = awesomesauce

it also says (on the back) that he had a great time on our date last night eating at Chili's and watching Pirates II.
So sweet.

So sweet, in fact, that it inspired me to share with you some other posts about him since, you know, the big day o' lOVE is around the corner. I wasn't blogging when we got married, so I think I'll share some pics of our big day soon.
It was beautiful and 90% of the elements were completely DIY'd so maybe you'll see something you'd like to copy.
***************

and this was my POTD (picture of the day) a few days ago.
watching Horton Hears a Who with my 3 kiddos in O's room.
(gotta love that self-timer)
also...not quite sure why I have such a sour look on my face.
perhaps I was all worried about looking weird having just run and hopped on the bed after pressing the button on the camera.
who knows?
